Trends and innovations from this year’s SIAL
This year’s SIAL was the biggest held so far, with 5,500 exhibitors from 140 countries and 145,000 visitors. Innovation and new trends were in the focus at the 23rd SIAL. Apart from practicality and health, the importance of design is also growing. Innovations and new trends were represented by 200 products on 600 square meters, displayed near the entrance An independent agency called XTC has been responsible for compiling „Observatoire des Tendances & Innovations” of SIAL since 1996 which is a kind of exhibition in the exhibition. There was an award for “general” innovation („Tendances Trends & innovations”) and there was also a SIAL-Disney joint award. At the same time, a „food design” competition was also held for students of École Supérieure d’Art et de Design. This year’s stand devoted to innovation was built on the basis of the “XTC trend tree” using five main categories and several sub categories within each, like Health, Fitness, Practicality, Ethical value and Joy. Innovation has been most intense in the health and joy categories in recent years, while the importance of practically has declined. Some of the products displayed were: Labeyrie – fruits of the sea (ADRIMEX), Stick Doseo sauces (Christian Potier SA), Amazin’raisins (Fresh marketing), Sachets Doypack fruits & légumes (Germes d’idées SAS).
