PENNY announces dairy product price hike
PENNY is freezing the prices of nearly 70 popular dairy products in January. This way, customers can start the new year with extra savings in addition to the usual budget-friendly prices. The price reduction will take effect gradually in January and will affect staple foods such as milk, sour cream, cheese, butter, cottage cheese, cream and yogurts.
Dairy products are essential parts of Hungarian households and are versatile consumer goods. They play a significant role in everyday shopping, which is also confirmed by PENNY’s consumer data: according to the discount chain’s statistics, in 2025, 4 out of 5 baskets contained some kind of dairy product, which meant at least two items per basket on average, with milk, yoghurts and sour cream being the most popular.
PENNY’s price reduction in January will apply to a total of nearly 70 basic dairy products from domestic sources, including milk, sour cream, cheese, butter, cottage cheese, cream and yoghurts in various packaging and fat contents.
“It is of utmost importance for PENNY to ensure quality and budget-friendly prices for its customers at the same time. Our January price reduction covers all basic dairy product categories, so many high-quality dairy products from domestic sources will be available at a significant discount in the on shelves”
– said Zoltán Bálint, PENNY’s purchasing manager.
The price drop can mean up to 10% savings per product for consumers, while in the case of some goods, even more can be left in their wallets:
- the price of the Sissy Trappist cheese disc in a kilogram package is at least 100 forints per kilogram,
- the price of the 100 gram Sissy tea butter is more than 15%,
- the price of the extremely popular 200 gram Sissy shepherd’s cheese is more than 14%,
- the price of the 125 gram Sissy sliced Trappist cheeses (natural/light/smoked/lactose-free) and the price of 250 gram Sissy creamy cottage cheese will decrease by an average of nearly 11%.
In favor of lactose-sensitive customers, several lactose-free products will be included among the discounted items, including the lactose-free milk, butter, sour cream, cottage cheese, cheese, yogurts and kefir, which are 100% domestic and have a favorable price-performance ratio.
