Tea pyramid from Russia
Food giant Unilever has started the production of Lipton tea in pyramid packs at its St. Petersburg 'Tea Packing Factory'.
According to company's satement to produce pyramid packs, a 15 million euro investment was needed to install tea packing machines in the factory, which will manufacture up to 1.5 million packs per annum and grow tea production capacity by 16%.
The Tea Packing Factory in St. Petersburg is Unilever's second-largest in Europe in terms of production volume. It produces tea brands, such as Lipton, Brooke Bond and Beseda. Over the years, Unilever has invested 1 billion rubles (about 28.170 million euro) in the facility. Moreover, its production capacity has increased by 52% in 2 years and now amounts to 18,500 tons.
Unilever, which has been operating in Russia since 1992, has a workforce of 2,000 in the country. Besides the Tea Packing Factory in St. Petersburg, Unilever also has a margarine factory in Moscow, as well as an associated factory located in Tula, which produces bouillon cubes, instant soups, seasonings and mashed potatoes.
