Tea garden near Budapest? Yes! And now anyone can be a part of it!
“Tea is not only important in the Far East or in Anglo-Saxon culture. This noble drink also has a place in Hungary, which also has community-building power.” This is the credo of Marianna Varga, a horticultural engineer and certified tea expert, which is why she has now launched her campaign to popularize tea.
On the Brancs crowdfunding site, anyone can now adopt a tea bush from Marianna’s tea garden, the first in Hungary. Marianna Varga obtained her certified tea expert qualification in England and launched Hungary’s first tea project six years ago. Hungary’s first and only tea garden is located in the Danube Bend, in Vác-Törökhegy. In summer, she makes fresh, soft green tea from the leaves of the tea bushes grown here, and in autumn, she makes sweet, soothing, caffeine-free tea from the flowers. The leaves harvested by her are completely chemical-free, the production is carried out in a sustainable manner, and the local conditions are used to the fullest. Marianna’s goal is for tea in Hungary to be given the same status as wine – from production to consumption, because in her opinion, “good tea is delicious in itself, there is no need to flavor it, the fresh leaves are sweet and juicy”. Moreover, the leaves of Hungarian shrubs are not only high-quality, but also environmentally friendly, as they completely avoid the environmental burden of filter teas. Participants in the “Adopt a Tea Shrub” campaign not only receive gift tea packages and tea tasting experiences, but also actively contribute to writing the history of Hungarian tea. “Feedback and small successes give strength to everyday life” – says Marianna, who draws inspiration from the enthusiasm of tea tasters and visitors.
