The president of Wizz Air is leaving
Robert Carey, the president of Wizz Air, left his position, which was announced by Bloomberg. Carey has held the position of president at the Hungarian low-cost airline since June 2021, and previously worked for big-name companies such as Delta Air Lines Inc., EasyJet Plc and America West Airlines.
According to Wizz Air’s announcement, Carey left to pursue other interests. In the next three months, general manager József Váradi will perform the tasks of commercial management. After Carey’s departure, three executives at the company were also promoted. Chief Operating Officer Michael Delehant will become Head of Commercial and Operations, while Diarmuid O’Conghaile, Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta, will become Wizz Air’s Chief Operating Officer in Malta. O’Conghaile’s role at Wizz Air Malta will be taken over by Mauro Peneda, Head of Operations Control.
The leadership changes happen just as airlines are preparing for the busiest time of the year. European air traffic control problems have already caused disruptions, and in recent weeks both Wizz Air and Ryanair have faced significant delays and cancellations.
