Lidl permanently reduces the prices of some chocolates
From today some chocolates are available cheaper in Lidl stores: the company is permanently reducing the price of its own-brand, 100-gram Fin Carré chocolates by 20 percent. The move aims to ensure that customers can access quality products at affordable prices during the upcoming holiday season, almost all of which are Fairtrade certified.
Chocolate is popular among European consumers: nearly half, or 45 percent, of the world’s chocolate supply is consumed on the continent. Many Europeans consider chocolate an everyday luxury that they would not be willing to give up, according to data from the Centre for the Promotion of Imports (CBI), a Dutch government agency. Moreover, Europeans consume much more than the average 0.9 kg of chocolate per year. Chocolate is one of the most popular sweets in our country as well: according to Impetus Research’s étTend 2025 research, 37 percent of the population in Hungary consumes chocolate bars at least once a week, and only 8 percent of those surveyed said they never eat them. The research also shows that Hungarians eat some kind of chocolate an average of 4.6 times a week.
Chocolate prices drop by 20 percent
These sweets are also popular with customers at Lidl Hungary, which is why the discount chain is continuing its price reduction campaign: before the holiday season, its own-brand chocolates will be permanently cheaper.
The price of 100-gram Fin Carré chocolates will drop by 20 percent from October 27: for example, the price of the classic 100-gram milk and dark chocolates will drop from 599 forints to 479 forints, while the premium, high-cocoa versions will drop from 999 forints to 799 forints. With the festive season approaching, this is especially good news for those who like to give sweets as gifts at Halloween, Santa Claus or Christmas – or simply enjoy the small pleasures of everyday life in the form of a cube of chocolate. The vast majority of Lidl Fin Carré products are also Fairtrade certified, which ensures better working and living conditions for small producers and workers in Africa, Asia and Latin America. This way, customers can also support sustainable and fair cocoa production.
“As an ethical and responsible company, we consider it important to always provide our customers with the best possible price in addition to excellent quality, which is why this year, in addition to our regular promotions, we have permanently reduced the prices of everyday foods such as milk, tomatoes, and most recently orange juice at the beginning of October. As the holiday season approaches, more and more people are looking for different chocolates, so with the permanent price reduction we want to ensure that quality chocolate remains accessible to everyone,”
said Zoltán Nepp, Lidl’s purchasing director.
In addition, chocolate is not only delicious, but – when consumed in moderation – it is also known for its beneficial physiological effects: chocolates with a high cocoa content contain antioxidants, can help improve mood and reduce stress.
