Students of the University of Sopron demonstrated their outstanding talent and professional preparedness at the 2025 HUNGAROPACK STUDENT Packaging Design Student Competition. A total of 83 entries were received for the high-quality, national competition, from 7 different educational institutions, with the participation of 80 students. The young people from Sopron were able to stand on the podium in several categories at the ceremonial award ceremony held at Óbuda University.

The aim of the HUNGAROPACK STUDENT Packaging Design Student Competition is to provide a competition opportunity for university students who also acquire packaging technology knowledge during their higher education. Students from the Faculty of Wood and Creative Industries of the University of Sopron achieved outstanding results in the competition, further strengthening the institution’s reputation in the creative industries. The students from the University of Sopron demonstrated impressive diversity and creativity: their designs included, for example, comic-inspired boxing glove packaging, an LED gift box in the shape of a detonator, special flower packaging, practical pistachio and cake slice boxes, a packaging design for color-correcting glasses, and pálinka gift packages. The students’ solutions are functional, emotional, sustainable and aesthetic at the same time – faithfully reflecting the strengths of the creative industry and design training programs in Sopron.

Among the graphic design students, Alexandra Sándor won the gold medal in the marketing category, Júlia Koleszár won the silver medal, and Lilla Veszelka won the bronze medal. They were prepared for the competition by Péter Rosta and Judit Gabriella Szarka .

Alexandra Sándor‘s Ballast boxing glove packaging received a gold award in the marketing category.

The design is a comic or graphic concept, with the motifs of fight, struggle and endurance at the center, referring to the relationship between sport and self-expression.

Júlia Koleszár won the HUNGAROPACK STUDENT silver award in addition to the categories, meaning that her work received the second most points in this competition. The student’s concept was to design unique decorative packaging that no one has ever done before. Her idea was to build an old-style detonator body out of wood. Classic 19th century design, rustic appearance, but at the same time it suggests a playful, ‘crafty’ ending. An LED-based light is built in, which can be operated with a switch. Then the detonator lever must be pulled up (at this time an ingenious mechanical mechanism is activated, then when pressed with a smooth movement, two spring-loaded doors on the side of the box open and the product becomes visible).

Veszelka Lilla designed a very unique and special flower packaging, for which she received a bronze award in the novelty, originality, and inventiveness category. The boxes containing colorful messages create a modern, clean and personal effect (e.g. “For you”, “Thank you”, “I love you”), while also conveying emotions.

HUNGAROPACK STUDENT special award was given to: Liliána Kövecses, Anna Laczházy, Fanni Locsmándi, and Virag Péter. The students were assisted in their preparation by Péter Rosta and Judit Gabriella Szarka.

Liliána Kövecses made everyone’s dream come true, as she designed a packaging for pistachios that is easy to open, without having to tear the box apart to access the product. The shade of the packaging evokes the inner green of the seed, thus visually reinforcing trust.

Anna Laczházy reimagined the packaging for cake slices. Thanks to the revolutionary idea, the desserts do not stick together or fall on each other, but are separated.

Fanni Locsmándi‘s packaging design is a box for color correction glasses that helps colorblind people perceive colors more vividly and accurately. See more, feel more – experience the real world of colors – says the packaging.

Péter Virág‘s packaging, the harmonious combination of pálinka, dried apricots and glasses not only offers a taste experience, but also a consciously put together gift package that reflects Hungarian traditions and hospitality.

Among the design students, Vizkelety Virág won a bronze medal, while Czvik Antónia also received the Hungaropack Student Award. Her perfume packaging is both delicate and elegant, which is why she received the bronze award in the marketing category. The box with a discreet ribbon suggests lightness and playfulness. The central element of the packaging is the Vizkelety Virág logo, which is both modern and elegant, and its uniqueness sets the brand apart from the usual perfume market offerings. The overall effect is harmonious and feminine.
