The Hungarian cheese specialties were on display at the world competition
Domestic cheese specialties have received international recognition. At the World Cheese Awards held in Norway last year, a total of 11 domestic cheeses won the podium. The cheese makers have learned a lot at domestic and foreign trainings and study tours organized by the Hungarian Cheese Makers’ Association and the National Chamber of Agriculture, and they apply the knowledge they acquired there excellently in their daily activities.
The World Cheese Awards 2023 held last fall in Trondheim, Norway, ended with Hungarian success. 4,502 cheeses from 43 countries on 5 continents were nominated for the competition, of which 264 judges selected the best. Among the Hungarian cheeses nominated for the competition, 2 won gold, 5 silver and 4 won bronze medals. In recent years, some of the makers of the award-winning cheeses have taken part in study trips to France organized by the chamber or in training at the educational institution in Mosonmagyaróvár, and several have expanded their knowledge on trainings and professional visits organized by the Association of Hungarian Cheese Makers.
Domestic cheese makers are increasingly bravely entering their products in competitions that are considered outstanding competitions. Already in October 2019, at the World Cheese Awards 2019 held in Bergamo, Italy, we noticed the great performance of a Hungarian cheese maker. However, at the current 2023 world competition held in Trondheim, a total of 11 products achieved podium positions.
