The prosecution initiated an investigation into the adequacy of the food intolerance test because they were silent about the fact that the scientific basis of the offered health examination is currently unclear – the Pest County Prosecutor’s Office told MTI on Wednesday.

In their statement, they wrote that, according to the information released, food intolerance tests are procedures and laboratory tests that reliably show which foods the human body does not tolerate for more than 200 types of food from a few drops of blood, which is related to the development of certain diseases or conditions that impair the quality of life.

Based on the results, a diet can be put together in order to effectively eliminate the complaints – they added.

The professional information available to the prosecutor’s office raised questions regarding the actual effectiveness of such tests: according to the position of several international and Hungarian scientific societies and professional organizations, such tests, without proper medical supervision, can result in health damage and malnutrition in vulnerable groups such as children, and can also delay or prevent the discovery of the cause of the symptoms, and they contain the possibility of misdiagnosis.

There are also opposing professional positions arguing in favor of the effectiveness of such tests – they wrote, pointing out: at the same time, lay consumers are not aware of the actual use of such products They do not have knowledge about the effectiveness of the product, the scientific results for and against it, so they are more vulnerable and more easily influenced, therefore it is extremely important that they receive real information based on scientifically proven claims.

They emphasized that the actual effectiveness of the products must be proven, and claims that are not proven at an adequate level are particularly harmful to the interests of consumers.

They also stated that the food intolerance test under review in this case is classified as a so-called in vitro diagnostic medical device in terms of its legal classification, and therefore must comply with strict legal requirements.

Examination of compliance with domestic and EU legislation It is carried out in a market surveillance procedure by authorities with special expertise, and for this purpose the Attorney General’s Office initiated the pharmaceutical authority’s market surveillance procedure regarding the test, the statement says.
