It is definitely worth submitting an electronic damage report to the agricultural damage assessment body (county government office) for farmers affected by spring frost damage. This is necessary so that – if the other support conditions are met – the producers can receive compensation for the damage later. In order to be eligible for damage mitigation benefits, the agricultural producer must act carefully when reporting the damage. Spring frost occurs when the temperature at the risk location is minus 2°C or lower, measured at a height of two meters from the ground level, in the spring period. Information about this can be found on the HungaroMet website.

The damage notification must be made within fifteen days of the occurrence of the agricultural damage event

As the deadline for the notification falls within the period of submission of the Single Application, the notification deadline is extended to 31 May 2025 at the latest. In the case of spring frost causing a decrease in yield, the agricultural damage event shall be considered to have occurred at the time when the frost occurs in the area affected by the damage. At the same time, farmers are reminded that the existence of agricultural insurance or membership in the crisis insurance system plays an important role in determining the amount of damage mitigation benefits, since in this case the producer is entitled to the maximum amount of damage mitigation. When determining the amount of the damage mitigation benefit, the agricultural insurance that was concluded before the first damage event occurred may be accepted. Therefore, everyone is advised to take out the necessary crop insurance in a timely manner, for which the state also provides significant support.
