Mosquitoes dominating the market of pesticides
As a result of last year’s warm and dry weather, with hardly any mosquitoes, sales dropped in the market of pesticides and insect repellents by 5 per cent in terms of quantity. Total sales still approached HUF 3,5 billion. The largest segment is that of aerosols, which expanded from 38 to 40 per cent last year. The segment of insect repellents shrunk from 19 to 13 per cent, while that of moth killers expanded to 12 per cent. Owing to the predominantly dry weather, there were fewer mosquitoes around in 2007 than ever before. Drugstores, hyper markets and domestic chains account for the largest part of sales in the category. The combined market share of these three channels is over 80 per cent. The season is expected to start earlier this year, than it had in 2007.
