A maternity ward diary, a healing garden, and a trauma-informed adult education system are among this year’s BioTechUSA for Health Award winners
The BioTechUSA Health Awards were presented at a gala ceremony at the Museum of Fine Arts on November 20. The event honored domestic healthcare and public education organizations that implement forward-looking solutions for infrastructure and educational developments, thanks to the 24 million forint support of the award, which was founded by the owners of the exclusively Hungarian-owned BioTechUSA group. The award winners include a real-time, digital delivery room event diary, a nature-based psychiatric rehabilitation space, and a multimedia, trauma-aware adult education system. Not only the winners of the award and the audience award were happy at the gala, as a community donation was also made on site, thus raising an additional 7 million forints for the BMSZKI Trauma-Aware Gynecological Clinic.
The award was established last year by the owners of the BioTechUSA-cégszopto, the Lévai family, with the aim of launching developments that bring new healthcare solutions and methodologies that can shape national attitudes and establish brand-new healthcare operating principles. Similar to last year, applications were accepted in three categories this year, based on which the most outstanding healthcare innovation activity of the year, the most outstanding infrastructure development plan of the year, and the most outstanding educational methodology or health literacy education campaign of the year were sought.
The call received 55 applications, of which the best 3 were selected by a jury of communication and healthcare professionals, while the public decided on the other 3. The professional partner of the award this time was the Hungarian Hospital Association, and the media partner was Central Médiacsoport and Player Media Group. The category winners received 5-5-5 million forints, while the organizations selected by the public received 3-3-3 million forints.
The Most Outstanding Healthcare Innovation Activity of the Year category was won by the Semmelweis University Department of Neonatology project called NeoTracker, which is a real-time, digital delivery room event log. NeoTracker records delivery room events and physiological parameters based on the recommendations of Newborn Life Support. During the pilot, 200–300 events will be recorded, and in the case of a nationwide introduction, it will affect the care of 75–80 thousand newborns.
The most outstanding infrastructure development plan of the year was awarded to the Tolna County Balassa János Hospital “Healing Garden” – a nature-based psychiatric rehabilitation space project. Thanks to the support, a therapeutic garden with raised beds, herbs, lighting and a drinking fountain will be created next to the psychiatric ward.
The most outstanding educational methodology or health literacy education campaign of the year was the “Living and Loving Without a Mother/Father” Public Foundation program of the Orpheusz Foundation, with which people want to increase trauma awareness. To this end, a multimedia, trauma-aware adult education system will be implemented with e-learning materials, podcasts and workshops.
A total of 33 thousand votes were received during the public vote, and one organization in each category was able to enjoy the support of 3-3-3 million forints. This year, the Hungarian Health Preservation and Lifestyle Medicine Association, the Elmondhatom Foundation and the Győr Diabetes Children Support Association received the BioTechUSA for Health Award and the accompanying amount.
