Due to the nationwide trade union demonstration announced for March 12, no passenger flights will depart from Brussels Airport in a week, next Thursday, the airport operator announced.

It also warned that disruptions should also be expected for arriving flights.

According to the airport, several security employees and ground service workers will go on strike in connection with the demonstration. For this reason, the operator has canceled all departing passenger flights until March 12 to ensure the safety of passengers and crew and to avoid long lines.

The decision follows similar measures that were taken several times last year due to strikes. Airlines will inform passengers directly about the available options.

According to airport data, union action that was not directly directed against the airport caused seven disruptions to air traffic in 2025. As a result, around 2,400 flights were cancelled and 275,000 fewer passengers passed through Brussels Airport.

Brussels Airlines, which operates in Zaventem and handles the majority of the airport’s traffic, said the strike would have a significant impact on its operations.

The company called on unions to protest in a way that would not repeatedly paralyze air transport and the operation of sectors not affected by the dispute. Brussels Airlines said last year’s seven-day strike affected more than 100,000 passengers and cost the airline an estimated €15 million.
