Spokesman: the European Commission would extend the authorization of glyphosate by ten years
The European Commission proposes a ten-year extension of the license for the use of glyphosate-containing plant protection products within the European Union, informed Stefan de Keersmaecker, the competent spokesperson of the Brussels body, on Wednesday.
In response to a journalist’s question at the body’s usual daily press conference, the spokesperson stated that the European Commission is proposing to extend the use license of the controversial plant protection agent because, according to the findings of all competent scientific bodies, there is currently no information that would cause concern.
“Our recommendation is based on solid scientific information that takes into account the most diverse active ingredients”
– said the spokesperson, then added: the text is in line with the latest relevant findings of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
