Slovenia’s largest brewery not affected by Heineken Group’s downsizing for now
Slovenia’s largest brewery, Pivovarna Lasko Union, will not be affected by the job cuts announced by the Heineken Group for the time being, the Slovenian company announced.
The international brewing company plans to cut 5-6 thousand jobs in the next two years in order to increase productivity.
The company, which employs about 87 thousand people, did not specify which countries the measures would affect, but indicated that the majority of the layoffs are expected in Europe.
The Slovenian brewery, which employs 397 people, said in a statement: “There is currently no new information regarding Slovenia, and their operations continue uninterrupted.”
The company emphasized that efficiency, productivity, investments and sustainable growth remain at the heart of its activities. This year, they plan to launch new products and open a new bar in Ljubljana.
Pivovarna Lasko Union celebrated its 200th anniversary last year.
In the early 2000s, the company came into the spotlight during the so-called “brewery wars”, when Pivovarna Lasko and Pivovarna Union competed for market dominance, which put both companies in a serious financial situation.
Eleven years ago, Heineken acquired both breweries, divested itself of the soft drink brands, and focused on beer production. The company’s three main product pillars are currently the Lasko, Union and Heineken brands, and it has joined the global trend of producing non-alcoholic beers.
