Slovakia temporarily stops imports of Ukrainian grain
Slovakia will temporarily stop the import of grain and some other products from Ukraine, the press department of the Slovak government office told the Bratislava office of MTI on Monday.
Samuel Vlcan, the executive minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, announced at his press conference that the executive government made the decision to stop imports at its online meeting on Monday, who also said that the import stop will come into effect on April 19.
Vlcan justified the decision with the need to protect the health of the agricultural sector and consumers
According to Monday’s information, the import ban will apply to several other products from Ukraine in addition to grain, including sugar, seeds, dried fodder, hops, flax, hemp, vegetables and fruits, and products made from them. , as well as wine, ethyl alcohol and honey.
At his press conference on Friday, the head of the Slovak Ministry of Agriculture announced Bratislava’s first restrictive decision regarding Ukrainian grain, according to which the processing and use of Ukrainian grain and flour in the country was banned due to the content of pesticides harmful to health.
According to the report of the TASR public service news agency, the Slovak Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that the importation of Ukrainian grain threatens, and may even make the situation of Slovak producers impossible. In this context, it was indicated that the department had already used all its legal options aimed at regulating imports, and a government-level decision was needed to take further steps.
