Péter Szijjártó: Wizz Air will launch a direct flight to Cairo from the end of October
After long negotiations, the diplomatic efforts finally paid off: from the end of October, Wizz Air will launch a flight from Budapest to Cairo three times a week, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on his social media page on Sunday.
The head of the ministry wrote that until now the airline could not launch a flight to the Egyptian capital because the regulations of the Cairo International Airport “essentially excluded” low-cost operators from the airport.
He emphasized that the issue has been kept on the agenda at every negotiation since 2022, asking their Egyptian partners to grant Wizz Air a landing permit in Cairo.
The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Archeology finally issued the necessary papers, so the route is open from October 30.
Péter Szijjártó noted that “a new tourist destination has become available and a new economic link has been established between the two countries”.
