Péter Szijjártó: Tolnatej Zrt.’s ten billion forint investment further strengthens the company’s competitiveness
The ten billion forint investment of Tolnatej Zrt. will further strengthen the company’s international competitiveness and will provide predictable demand for numerous Hungarian producers – said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó in Szekszárd on Monday, according to the ministry.
When announcing the new investment of Tolnatej Zrt., the Minister reported that the domestically owned company is establishing a modern, automated whey protein processing plant worth ten billion forints, which the government is supporting with 3.5 billion forints, making numerous jobs secure.
In his speech, he emphasized that it is an extraordinary product on the world market a product in demand will be produced as a result of this investment, which will provide a serious competitive advantage on international markets.
He pointed out that
with the purchase of approximately 260 million liters of raw milk, Tolnatej Zrt., which operates in a modern manner and complies with the highest hygiene and health standards, will provide predictable demand for more than a hundred Hungarian producers.
He then emphasized that agriculture and the food industry are the soul of the domestic economy, the sector looks back on old traditions, yet is extremely competitive on an international level.
“In the past ten years, 295 large-scale food industry investments have been made in Hungary, worth more than 1,500 billion forints, as a result of which the production value of Hungarian agriculture has now reached absolute peaks, reaching 7,000 billion forints last year”
– he informed.
“And as a result of these investments, we can produce food of appropriate quality and quantity for twenty million people in Hungary today (…) This means that we could practically supply double the Hungarian population with food industry products. After all, it is no wonder that the Hungarian food industry has set serious records in the past years, for example, last year the production value of the food industry reached 7,000 billion forints, which has never been seen before,” he continued.
He also mentioned that industrial production in Tolna County has tripled in recent years, reaching 1,000 billion forints last year, while unemployment has decreased by a third.
According to him, Szekszárd has an outstanding role in this, as the government has also concluded support agreements with twelve other companies in recent years, as a result of which investments worth a total of 14 billion forints have been made, saving approximately 1,650 jobs.
The minister then touched on the crises of the past decade and a half, the serious uncertainty that accompanies the emergence of the new world order, and underlined that Hungary has achieved enormous economic feats in the meantime.
He warned that in the current war situation, Europe could easily come out on top, and this also highlights the main task of the Hungarian government: we must stay out of all wars and protect people and the economy from the negative effects of these conflicts, with particular regard to energy supply.
“That is why we must do everything here in Hungary, on the one hand, to maintain the reduction of utility bills, and on the other hand, to in order to maintain protected fuel prices. This is of paramount importance for Hungarian families, the Hungarian economy and Hungarian jobs”
– he opined.
“And indeed, energy prices and fuel prices are of paramount importance for agriculture and food. Keeping energy prices under control is also crucial for Hungarian agriculture, Hungarian farmers and the Hungarian food industry”
– he added.
