Péter Szijjártó: the domestic food industry is further strengthened with the investment of SUGO FOOD Kft. in Baja

With SUGO FOOD Kft.’s investment in Baja worth approximately 17.5 billion forints, the domestic food industry, whose performance is already breaking records, is further strengthened – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced in the city on Monday, according to the ministry.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development reported at the announcement of the investment of SUGO FOOD Kft. that the Belgian-owned food company is building a new chip processing plant worth 17.5 billion forints, among other things, for which the government is providing 4.8 billion forints in support, thus helping to create thirty new jobs and make two hundred others concrete-safe.

He explained that

the development will further strengthen the domestic food industry, as it is the second largest tortilla chip manufacturer in Europe, and 90 percent of the raw materials used here are purchased from Hungarian farmers.

Then announced that the company is in close cooperation with the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences, which allows for extraordinary results in the field of potato production.

“The processing capacity of paprika and broccoli is also increasing here, and the company is taking great steps to purchase paprika from Hungary in its entire global network. So this is another opportunity for Hungarian farmers, Hungarian agriculture, Hungarian farmers, which will increase the demand for their products”

– he pointed out.

Péter Szijjártó stated that agriculture is the soul of the Hungarian economy, and the sector has a heritage that is unparalleled in almost all of Europe, and is also internationally competitive.

“In the past ten years, 295 large-scale food industry investments have been made in Hungary, worth more than 1,500 billion forints, as a result of which the production value of Hungarian agriculture is now at an absolute peak, exceeding 7,000 billion forints last year,” he informed.

“And by now, Hungarian agriculture will be so developed that it could provide food for twenty million people, meaning we can produce the daily food for twice as many people as there are we live in this country”

– he noted.

He also mentioned that the government pays serious attention to the development of the Baja area, and in the recent period, support agreements have been concluded with thirteen companies, as a result of which investments worth a total of about 12 billion forints have been made, creating two thousand jobs.

And he added that industrial production in Bács-Kiskun County has doubled in recent years, last year its value reached 3,500 billion forints, while unemployment is has been reduced by half.

The minister then touched on the crises of the past decade and a half, the serious uncertainty that accompanies the emergence of the new world order, and underlined that Hungary has achieved enormous economic feats in the meantime.

He warned that in the current war situation, Europe could easily come out on top, and this also highlights the main task of the Hungarian government: we must stay out of all wars and protect people and the economy from the negative effects of these conflicts, with particular regard to energy supply.
