Seasonal agricultural workers are allowed to enter Germany with strict restrictions
The total ban on the coronavirus epidemic in March will be lifted and tens of thousands of foreign seasonal agricultural workers will still be allowed to enter Germany under strict rules due to the sector’s labor needs, as agreed by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food on Thursday.
Spring jobs, such as harvesting asparagus, which is hugely popular in Germany, will require roughly 100,000 seasonal workers in the sector by the end of May, but only 20,000 remain in the country after the entry ban imposed on 20 March due to the epidemic. They are mostly nationals of European Union partner countries, mainly Poland, Romania and Bulgaria, and can work 75 working days on farms under the original rules. (MTI)
