Retail sales in the euro area increased in September
After several months of stagnation and decline, the volume of retail trade increased slightly in September compared to the previous month in the euro zone, according to the Tuesday report of Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Even the non-food sector grew, although only by 1 percent
In September, with a seasonal adjustment, the volume of retail trade increased by 0.4 percent compared to the previous month, in line with market expectations, both in the euro area and in the European Union.
In August, on a monthly basis, the volume of retail trade did not change either in the euro area or in the EU. And in June and July, turnover decreased on a monthly basis, reflecting growing consumer concerns amid rising credit costs, stubbornly high inflation and the deepening energy crisis across Europe.
Sales of non-food products increased by 1.0 percent in September in the euro area, compared to 0.2 percent in August. Online trade jumped 2.6 percent, compared to a 4.1 percent decline in August. The turnover of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 0.4 percent, while it decreased by 0.7 percent in August. Meanwhile, fuel sales decreased again in September, namely by 0.6 percent on a monthly basis, while they increased by 2.1 percent in August.
