Aldi to Shut Down Its Online Store in September
Aldi is withdrawing from the online business and will shut down its online store at the end of September 2024. This marks the end of a joint project between Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd after just four years.
The two discount retailers have confirmed that their shared online shop for non-food products will close on September 30. Since 2021, Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have operated their online business together, primarily offering household appliances, multimedia products, DIY supplies, and home furnishings.
The company stated that it aims to focus on its core business—brick-and-mortar grocery retailing. Customers will be informed about the closure through newsletters and website notifications, and they will still be able to place orders until the end of September.
Aldi has not disclosed details regarding the number of affected employees, but media reports suggest that around 80 workers will be impacted.
The closure only affects Aldi’s online shop; customers will still be able to purchase non-food products in physical stores. The retailer’s apps and websites will remain available, providing recipes and information on current food promotions. Services such as “Aldi Talk,” “Aldi Reisen,” and “Aldi Foto” will also continue unchanged.
