Food inflation in Romania accelerated to 9.88 percent in September
Inflation in Romania accelerated to 9.88 percent in September from 9.85 percent in August, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Monday.
In September, food prices increased by 7.86 percent compared to a year earlier, non-food products by 11.09 percent, and services by 10.36 percent.
The highest increases were recorded for electricity (69.16 percent), fresh fruit (32.42 percent), Personal care services (19.52 percent), rail passenger transport (18.59 percent), coffee (17.08), vehicle repair and maintenance (15.76 percent) and clothing and footwear repair (15.15 percent) became more expensive. The prices of air transport (14.91 percent), potatoes (10.43 percent), sugar (2.44 percent), natural gas (2.04 percent) and telephones (1.33 percent) decreased the most.
Consumer prices in Romania increased by 0.36 percent compared to the previous month.
In its latest forecast, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) predicted that inflation would peak at around 10 percent in September, and the annual inflation rate would be 8.8 percent by the end of 2025.
