September 29 is world coffee day: here are some interesting facts!
We’ve been celebrating coffee on September 29 for 40 years – one of the world’s most popular beverages first got its own day in Japan in 1983. In addition to traditional coffee drinking, in the 21st century more and more new consumption methods and habits have developed, young people now expect completely different things from coffee than their parents or even grandparents.
We have collected some interesting facts about coffee and we also give you some tips to make the drink celebration memorable.
It is impossible to know exactly who drank the world’s first coffee. According to legend, a shepherd noticed that his goats became very lively after grazing on the berries of a certain shrub. He also picked from that bush, threw the berries into hot water and drank the concoction, the first coffee. In practice, the procedure is the same to this day, of course in a slightly different way.
The coffee cult started in the Middle East, in the 15th century there were countless coffee houses in Turkey, Persia, Syria and Arabia. Coffee came to Europe in the 16th century, but many Europeans rejected it on the grounds that Christians could not drink the drink of other religions. VIII. However, Pope Clement once tasted a cup of coffee and approved its consumption, so the drink spread throughout Europe and America.
Today, coffee is grown in more than 70 tropical countries, making it the world’s second most exported commodity after oil. What is interesting is that most coffee is not sold in the major coffee-producing countries, but in Europe, since we Europeans drink one-third of the world’s production.
Despite inflation and economic uncertainty, the majority of consumers do not give up coffee, so the amount consumed does not decrease, but changes.
Older people prefer to drink their favorite drink at home, younger people prefer coffee in company or on the go, they vote for ready-to-eat products. Many young people do not have a coffee maker in their own apartment at all.
Prepackaged, on-the-go products are becoming more and more common. Really conscious consumers pay attention to buying a product with recyclable packaging, so many choose aluminum box packaging, because this packaging material is endlessly and completely recyclable.
Coffee fans are looking for variety and special flavors. In this area too, ready-to-drink products offer a larger selection and consistent, excellent quality. There are also salted-caramel, hazelnut, chocolate or even rum nut flavored milk coffee drinks.
