Alexandra Szentkirályi: government measures halved food inflation
The combined effect of several government measures has halved the inflation of food prices compared to its previous peak, the government spokesperson stated in Kossuth radio’s Sunday newspaper program.
Alexandra Szentkirályi said that the cabinet used appropriate means to suppress inflation, which – as can already be seen from the numbers – “got a stomachache and fell to its knees”, but the fight is not over yet, and the goal is to reach a single-digit inflation rate.
There is a good chance that this goal can be reached as early as October instead of the originally expected end of the year – explained the government spokesman, noting that inflation had dropped to 17.6 percent by July, which is a two and a half percent decrease compared to the previous month, the and in terms of food prices, it means a decrease of 0.9 percent.
According to him, in an annual comparison, the combined effect of several government measures has practically halved food inflation compared to its peak, and the cabinet wants to encourage this process.
