A broad dialogue has been launched on the collection and processing of animal by-products
At the initiative of the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK), with the involvement of the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih), a professional consultation was held with the participation of professional organizations representing animal product lines and ATEV Zrt. in order to improve the efficiency of animal by-product management.
The National Chamber of Agriculture organized a meeting in Dunaharaszti with the participation of the heads of the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih), ATEV Zrt., and the relevant livestock and food industry professional organizations (the Poultry Product Council, the Association of Responsible Food Producers, the Sheep and Goat Sectoral Interprofessional Organization, the Hungarian Aquaculture and Fisheries Interprofessional Organization, the Hungarian Livestock Breeders’ Association, the Hungarian Meat Industry Association, the Hungarian Sheep and Goat Breeders’ Association, the Hungarian Pig Breeders’ and Keepers’ Association, the Rabbit Interprofessional Organization and Product Council, and the Milk Interprofessional Organization and Product Council).
The participants see the meeting as the first stage of a series of professional discussions, during which they initiated cooperation and joint thinking on issues related to animal by-products. The proper management of animal by-products is a basic condition for the operation of animal husbandry. It is linked to animal health, disease control and circular economy in many ways, so nowadays it is much more than just destruction. The aim of the meeting was to jointly review how the collection, processing and destruction of animal by-products can be improved, and how the burden on producers can be rationalized.
The parties agreed on the importance of substantive professional dialogue, which could create an opportunity to develop a more efficient and sustainable by-product management system in the future. The need for awareness and information, which help producers to properly manage or utilize different types of animal by-products, was also given a prominent role at the meeting.
