Széchenyi Card in numbers
The programme was launched in 2002 and after 160,000 applications 120,000 have been handed out so far. SMEs usually apply for HUF 5 million or smaller loans. More and more enterprises have problems with paying off the loans: so far 3.5 percent of cards failed (Garantiqa Hitelgarancia Zrt. had to pay HUF 18 billion as a state guarantor); the names of non-payers are published. At the moment, Széchenyi Card is available in more than 300 places of 200 settlements all over Hungary.
