Századvég: Hungarian consumers prefer Hungarian goods
87 percent of domestic consumers prefer Hungarian goods, and this is encouraging for Hungarian businesses – Századvég Konjunktúrakutató Zrt. informed MTI on Wednesday based on its survey.
It was explained that among Hungarian customers, the preference for domestic products is significantly higher when buying food than for other products. About 70 percent of the respondents considered it important to choose a Hungarian product for food, in contrast, this ratio was 39 percent for books, and around 28-30 percent for furniture, cosmetics, and clothing.
When buying food, the preference for domestic products is probably related to the encouragement of freshness, quality, and support of the local economy, while products in other categories typically have a longer life cycle and supply chain, they write in the announcement.
According to the information, it is important for half of the customers that the origin and raw materials of the product are Hungarian, but only for every tenth consumer it is important that the brand of the product or the retailer is also Hungarian.
The survey also revealed that more than three quarters of consumers would like to buy more Hungarian furniture, cosmetics, and clothing products if they were available. At the same time, the majority would not pay more for them than for a similar product of a foreign brand.
