Liszt Ferenc airport passenger volume rises 8%
Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport's passenger volume has risen 8% yr/yr to 734,461 in April including the effect of the eruption of the Icelandic volcano in the same month of last year, airport operator Budapest Airport announced on Thursday.
Passenger numbers in January-April climbed 14.8% over the same period a year earlier. The number of takeoffs and landings at the airport increased more than 8% in the first four months of 2011. The number of transit passengers rose almost 2% due primarily to the New York flight of American Airlines, and the number of passengers using long-haul flights rose more than 27%. Passenger volume growth continues to be driven by conventional airlines, which increased turnover by almost 20% in the first quarter. Low-cost airlines achieved a 6% increase and cargo turnover rose 5% in Q1.
