The Forest Cycle Route of the Year runs between Szárliget and Csákvár

The competition of the National Forestry Association (OEE) to choose the most popular forest cycle route in Hungary has ended, the Szárliget-Csákvár section winding through Vértes won first place and the title of Forest Cycle Route of the Year 2025 – the National Forestry Association announced to MTI on Tuesday.

The public could vote for one of the five finalist routes, for the fifth time this year.

The The winning route leads through the heart of Vértes, with shady forest paths and long rolling hills making it unforgettable. Along the way, you can admire the military memorial next to the Szálláskúti Hunting Lodge, the rock walls of old quarries, the Fáni Valley or the rock of the Ördögszószék – they wrote in the announcement.

In a close competition, the Szántódpuszta-Jabapuszta route came in second place, which won over with its proximity to Lake Balaton and its peaceful atmosphere, and led the voting until the last day. The third place went to the Pilismaró – Kétbükkfa-sered section, with one of the most beautiful forest cycling experiences of the Danube Bend, they announced.

The aim of the OEE program is to present sustainable forest management to the widest possible audience, and in addition to promoting an active lifestyle, it also draws attention to the written and unwritten rules of cycling in the forest for the sake of safety and nature conservation. In this regard, OEE has also published a publication entitled Conscious Cycling in the Forests of Hungary, which can be downloaded for free from the association’s website.

Last year, the section between Farkasgyepű-Bakonybél, managed by Bakonyerdő Zrt., and in 2023, the cycle path winding through the Széchenyi Ecotourism Park Forest in Szolnok won the title of Forest Cycle Route of the Year.
