Hotel Association: Turnover continued to increase in Hungarian hotels
The increase in turnover in Hungarian hotels continued in February: domestic and foreign guests spent 1.55 million guest nights in domestic hotels, which is 8 percent more than a year earlier – according to the February Trend Report published on the website of the Hungarian Hotels and Restaurants Association (MSZÉSZ).
According to their analysis based on data from the Central Statistical Office, in February 2026, 914 hotels nationwide operated, the national room capacity increased by 3 percent, so that 61,445 rooms were available to guests. 241 hotels operated in Budapest with 23,674 rooms.
The number of domestic guest nights was nearly 724 thousand in the second month of the year, which exceeded last year’s by 9.5 percent. The 827 thousand nights spent by foreign guests were 7 percent more than in February 2025.
According to the analysis, 41.5 percent of guest nights in February were spent in Budapest, which is a 9.8 percent increase compared to a year earlier. In the capital, the number of domestic guest nights (105 thousand) increased by 15.6 percent, and that of foreigners (538 thousand) by 8.7 percent compared to February 2025.
908 thousand guest nights were registered in hotels outside the capital in February, which is a 7 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year. After Budapest, guests spent the most guest nights, a total of 228 thousand, in hotels in the Balaton tourist region. 73 percent of these were domestic guests, 27 percent were foreign guests. The number of domestic guest nights increased by 7.4 percent and the number of foreign guest nights by 11.8 percent compared to last year, according to the report.
In February, hotels nationwide achieved a gross revenue of 51.7 billion forints, which exceeded last year by 3.8 percent. Of this, room revenue accounted for 27 billion forints, which is a 4.6 percent decrease. Revenue from hospitality increased by 13 percent, and revenue from other services increased by 19 percent. The total revenue of hotels outside the capital was 30 billion forints in February, which exceeded last February by 6.2 percent. Room sales accounted for 48 percent of the revenue, 14.4 billion forints, they announced.
At the national level, the largest sending markets were the United Kingdom, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Romania, Italy, Slovakia, Israel, Spain and France.
In the first two months of this year, until the end of February, 3 million guest nights were registered in hotels, of which 1.4 million were domestic and 1.6 million were foreign guests. The total number of guest nights increased by 7 percent compared to the same period last year.
Nationally, hotels achieved a 47.5 percent room occupancy rate, a gross average room rate of HUF 33,803 and a gross REVPAR (room revenue per available room) of HUF 16,066 in the first two months.
Guests visiting hotels used SZÉP cards worth nearly HUF 4 billion by the end of February, the MSZÉSZ announced.
