Eger, Gyula and Nyíregyháza are the most popular destinations among Hungarian travelers during the four-day Easter long weekend, according to booking data from Szallas.hu.

According to the accommodation booking site’s statement sent to MTI on Tuesday, the top list also included Pécs, Hajdúszoboszló, Miskolc, Budapest, Szeged, Siófok and Hévíz. In terms of regions, Northern Hungary is the most sought-after (25 percent), significantly ahead of Lake Balaton (13.3 percent) and the Southern Great Plain region (12.6 percent).

Kelemen Lili, Szallas.hu’s press spokesperson, explained in the statement:

The data shows that during the Easter period, trips for two people are the most important, with almost half of the bookings. In terms of length of stay, two-night stays (40 percent) and three-night stays (37 percent) are the most common, while the proportion of those arriving for one night is 19 percent.

– he explained.

Among the types of accommodation, apartments lead the ranking with 30 percent of bookings, followed by hotels with 28 percent. Every fourth booking is for a guesthouse, while bed and breakfasts account for 14 percent and other accommodation for 3 percent, according to the analysis. Among the amenities, wellness plays a prominent role: those wishing to relax chose wellness accommodation in every third booking. In terms of catering, meals were requested in nearly a third of the bookings, of which breakfast was the most popular option.

The basket value, i.e. the fee paid for the entire stay, does not exceed 70 thousand forints in nearly half of the bookings – said the press spokesperson. 38 percent of bookings are between 70,000 and 170,000 forints, and every tenth booking is between 170,000 and 270,000 forints, while higher amounts account for 6 percent of bookings.

Based on feedback from Szallas.hu partners, accommodation providers are preparing a rich holiday offer this year as well: the most popular are egg-hunting competitions, craft workshops, and there will be bunny petting and a thematic sauna ceremony. The Easter menu is also included, and in some places guests can even expect unique treats such as prepared festive cakes, local pálinka tastings or discounted tickets to nearby major events, such as the Hollókő Easter Festival.

The traditional Hungarian Easter events stand out from the festive offerings of the settlements this year: while the authentic folk costumes, bucket-sprinkling and craft fairs at the World Heritage Site of Hollókő and the Matyó Easter in Mezőkövesd create an authentic atmosphere, the Siófok Nyudalom attracts families on the shores of Lake Balaton.
