The most popular destinations for domestic travel in the fall are Budapest, Eger and Pécs, according to booking data from Szallas.hu, with the majority of guests planning a 2-night stay.

According to the accommodation booking portal’s analysis sent to MTI on Wednesday, Northern Hungary is in the lead in the regional summary in the fall, with every fifth domestic booking being for the region. Lake Balaton is in second place with 15 percent of bookings, followed by Budapest and its catchment area and Western Transdanubia (13 percent each).

A third of the autumn bookings are for hotels, while 27 percent of travelers chose apartments. Guesthouses account for 24 percent, pensions for 13 percent, and other types of accommodation for 4 percent of the autumn bookings. Szallas.hu’s data also revealed that around a third of guests also requested board in addition to accommodation, most often breakfast or half board. Among the hotels, the 4- and 3-star categories are the most popular.

Nine out of ten autumn bookings are worth up to 170 thousand forints, bookings worth between 170 and 270 thousand forints account for 7 percent, while those over 270 thousand forints account for approximately 3 percent.

According to data from Szallas.hu, the most popular autumn attractions include the Nyíregyháza Zoo, the Sárvár Spa and Wellness Bath, the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, the Eger Castle and the Gyula Castle Bath, but many people also visit the Zalakaros Bath, the Hungarospa Hajdúszoboszló, the Visegrád Citadel, the Esztergom Basilica and the Festetics Castle in Keszthely.

Most bookings have been made for September, but interest in October is also growing, mainly due to the long weekend on October 23 and the autumn break. Nearly a third of October’s pre-bookings are for the four-day long weekend. Eger, Gyula, Budapest and Hévíz are the most popular destinations during the holiday season, they said.
