In addition to the capital, Eger, Szeged and Pécs attracted the most guests in winter, and the majority of Hungarian travelers took short winter getaways this year as well: 1-2 night bookings characterized the season, according to data from Szallas.hu.
According to an analysis sent to MTI, many people used the SZÉP card for domestic travel, paying for almost a third of the total value of online payments in December last year, and 26 percent in January and February.
According to the portal’s booking data, most travelers chose the Northern Great Plain and Budapest-Central Danube regions, with four out of ten domestic accommodation reservations being for one of these.
In the northern region, Debrecen, Hajdúszoboszló and Nyíregyháza, in addition to Eger, were the most popular, while in the capital region, Budapest towered high, followed by Visegrád and Esztergom.
Lake Balaton came in third place in the ranking of regions, and it also received a larger proportion of Szallas.hu’s bookings this year than last year, Lili Kelemen, Szallas.hu’s press spokesperson, highlighted in the statement. Around the lake, Hévíz, Siófok and Zalakaros were the favorites of Hungarian guests in the winter season.
