After a professional award, the Bookstry book community expands with a marketplace
Less than a month after winning the top prize in the community category at the Website of the Year competition, Bookstry has reached another milestone. The fast-growing Hungarian book platform has launched its own marketplace, with users uploading over 400 used books in the first week. The goal is to create a trust-based platform that offers an alternative to social media advertising groups.
A transparent marketplace built on community foundations
The Bookstry marketplace is not an isolated advertising platform, but an organic extension of the platform’s active community life. The biggest advantage of the system is that users are not present as anonymous advertisers: buyers can see the seller’s previous book activity, ratings and listings, which gives greater transparency and security to transactions.
Several integrated features help ensure a smooth purchase and sale:
- Built-in rating system: After successful transactions, parties can rate each other, building community trust.
- Internal messaging: The consultation takes place on a secure interface within the application, so there is no need to provide private data (phone number, email).
- Distance-based filtering: When posting ads, users can specify their location, and searchers can filter the results based on a kilometer radius. This significantly facilitates personal collection and helps avoid mailing costs.
- Map view: Ads for which the seller has set the option of personal collection can also be browsed on an interactive map. This feature is especially beneficial for those who do not want to deal with parcel delivery or simply want to find new reading material quickly, even in their immediate vicinity.
Award-winning platform with 21,000+ users
Since its launch in 2025, Bookstry has organically become one of the most popular digital bases for domestic book lovers. The growth of the platform and the activity of the community are continuous:
- more than 21,500 registered users,
- more than 178,000 shared reader experiences and posts,
- several thousand daily active users.
The application’s satisfaction indicators are also outstanding: it boasts a 4.9star rating in the App Storeand a 4.8star rating in Google Play.
“My goal was for the marketplace to not be an impersonal advertising platform, but a natural part of the community, where the seller is not a stranger, but another reader. With distance-based filtering, I wanted to promote personal encounters and simplicity: in the case of books, the postage would often be more than the volume itself, so books can change hands even on the next street. readings” – said Csaba Pánácz, the founder of the application.
Technological innovation in the service of reading
In addition to the recent professional award, Bookstry is also continuously developing its technological solutions. The application helps you choose your next book with an AI-based recommendation system, keeps detailed reading statistics, and offers a clean, ad-free interface for discussing books.
About the founder
Bookstry is developed and operated by Csaba Pánácz from Gérce, Vas County, as an independent developer. The project proves that even a small Hungarian village can build an award-winning digital product that successfully competes with global social platforms.
