The highly pathogenic bird flu also appeared in the county of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg
In a new area, in the county of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, the presence of a highly pathogenic bird flu virus was confirmed by the laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih). The authority has started the liquidation of the affected duck population, and the protection and surveillance districts have also been designated.
Increased mortality and the appearance of nervous system symptoms raised suspicion at the roast duck farm in Tiszadob, where the Nébih laboratory confirmed the presence of the H5N1 subtype of bird flu. The authorities started the liquidation of the herd of about 51,000 animals already based on the suspicion. A protection zone with a radius of 3 km was designated around the affected farm, and a surveillance (observation) zone with a radius of 10 km was defined. An epidemiological investigation is underway to reveal the causes of the appearance of the disease.
Several types of bird flu have been identified
In addition to the highly pathogenic, i.e. highly pathogenic, avian influenza, the H5N2 subtype of the low pathogenic avian influenza was also confirmed in Bács-Kiskun county. The animals of the Jászszentlászló mallard geese were asymptomatic, and the infection was revealed by a mandatory swab test prior to transport to the slaughterhouse. The presence of the low-pathogenicity avian influenza virus – in contrast to the high-pathogenicity – results in considerably milder measures. Poultry can only be moved within a radius of 1 km around the infected colony with an official permit. The affected animals can be slaughtered at a designated slaughterhouse if the competent county government office determines that the risk of the disease spreading is minimal.
