Beach snacks, bicycles and lung pumps – this is how young people survive the second week of the retirement challenge
The K&H retirement challenge continues: the contestants provided further proof that a tight budget doesn’t necessarily mean the end of fun. With creative solutions, conscious planning and a bit of humor, they managed to have experiences without completely emptying their wallets.
The K&H “retirement challenge” continues, in which the “heroes”, the influencers, try to live off the average monthly pension of 224 thousand forints for a month. In the latest round, the content producers proved that living off the average pension can not only involve sacrifices, but also creativity and experiences. Although many people are already strapped for cash by the middle of the month, the young content producers still find ways to have fun while saving money – and they also provide ideas for their followers.
Sharp change
For example, one contestant solved the 10,000 forint “impulse purchase” challenge in an unusual way: he bought a beach pass, a discount mattress, a hot dog, a hamburger and three pancakes – all while swimming in Lake Velence. In the absence of a pump, he inflated the mattress with his own lungs, but the sunshine, the fun and the beach snacks were worth every penny. During the week, he also went on a big shopping spree, mainly with non-perishable food, washing gel and hand soap, which provide the basic needs of the household for months in advance. However, he abandoned the gym membership and instead keeps himself in shape with his own bodyweight training and running – so even sports are free.
Another participant targeted the costs of transportation: instead of renewing his BKV pass, he switched to a MOL Bubi subscription, so he spends a fraction of the amount intended for transportation, while being more sporty and discovering new routes. In addition to cooking at home, she also relied on her mother’s kitchen, as it was much cheaper than dining out at a restaurant. Although she was invited to two birthday parties – which of course included a drink – she kept her spending within strict limits.
The challenge is far from over. The third and fourth weeks promise to be even more exciting: foreign trips, festivals and unexpected twists await the participants, who will need all their financial tricks to end the month with the most savings.
