Stable Fruit Consumption
According to the Central Statistical Office; in 2007, food consumption per person was 194 kg, which is one of the lowest value of the decade. Fourteen percent was spent on fruit and vegetables of the whole food expenditure.
2007 was a bad fruit production year. The production decresased to the level of the previous year's 42 percent. In particular, apples and pears suffered a big drop, while imports of fresh goods increased by 29 percent. The preliminary datas of 2008 show that 1.8 million tonnes of vegetables harvested, 840 thousand tonnes of fruit which is two times more than the harvest of 2007.
