Hungarians try to save a lot, but wouldn’t get rid of their cars
Nearly 60% of Hungarians expect higher electricity and gas bills in the fall, while a household with an average income could only manage HUF 3,000-3,000 extra per month.
In terms of kitchen money, households expect an increase of about HUF 100,000 per month if they want to continue to put the products they have been used to in their basket – it was revealed from the representative research of the Cofidis Credit Monitor.
During the third quarter survey, the focus was on price increases and expectations of a jump in overhead costs. The proportion of those who expect their financial situation to worsen this year is rising sharply. Already in July, 59 percent of Hungarians saw that their financial opportunities will deteriorate significantly compared to 2021, and in fact, this proportion exceeds the level measured during the first Covid wave in 2020.
According to the research of the Cofidis Credit Monitor, the increase in food prices will be reflected in household budgets compared to the past period. If they want to put the usual products in their basket in the coming months as well, then, according to Hungarians, they need to supplement their kitchen budget with an average of HUF 100,000 per month. The adult population creates extra income by reallocating expenses (23%), paid overtime (18%), taking on a second job (16%), special paid shifts (15%) or by using up their savings (14%).
