Sopron mountain village: the spotted wing midge can be the “second phylloxera”
If the cure will not be found, the spotted wing midge can become the “second phylloxera”
“the second filoxérává” could become the spotted wing Drosophila – the President of the Sopron mountain village told MTI on Thursday, adding that currently they can not quantify the damages that the insect caused and they also expect the rapid spread of the insect.
Taschner István the President of the Sopron mountain village said the biggest problem is that the insects lays its eggs to the fruit before harvest, when it is no longer possible to spray; because the larvaes cut the skin, the grapes rot and in the sunny, dry weather the sap becomes vinegary so the crop becmes unprocessable.
