From ham to egg dye – comprehensive Nébih inspection continues until Easter
This year’s spring seasonal food chain inspection, ordered by Parliamentary State Secretary András Tállai, will start on March 2. Experts from the county government and district offices, under the direction of Nébih, will conduct inspections related to the Easter holiday season until April 6. During the inspection period, which will last more than a month, in addition to popular Easter foods (ham, horseradish, eggs, cakes, vegetables, alcoholic beverages), egg dyes, sweet tea cakes, poultry feed, the sale of live rabbits and even plant passports will also be inspected.
The State Secretary highlighted that the main goal of the spring food chain inspection remains to ensure that only safe foods are on families’ holiday tables at Easter. To this end, authorities are inspecting alcoholic beverages sold in retail outlets (such as imported sparkling wines, prosecco) nationwide, while meat products (such as hams), cakes, horseradish, egg dyes and sweet tea cakes are inspected at the production plants. The range of spring seasonal inspections is made even wider by the inspection of egg packers.
In addition to food and its production, experts are inspecting laying hen feed and compliance with animal protection regulations during the sale of live rabbits at markets and pet stores. In preparation for spring gardening, inspectors are also paying increased attention to checking plant passports in nurseries and DIY stores, explained András Tállai.
Laboratory tests are also an important part of the national campaign, for which the authority will take samples of most products. Based on these, measurements of salt content, additives, contaminants, and pesticide residues will be carried out in the laboratories of Nébih, among others.
