Many people choose Croatia instead of Lake Balaton this year as well
As the summer season approaches, many are concerned with the question: Will the shores of Lake Balaton or the Adriatic Sea be the more expensive holiday destination in 2024? According to the Pénzcentrum’s analysis, several factors influence the answer, but considering the three most important costs – travel, accommodation, meals – travel costs in particular make a holiday in Croatia more expensive.
Although there are no significant differences between the two locations in terms of accommodation and food costs, travel has a significant impact on the budget. While the trip to Lake Balaton is typically shorter and cheaper for travelers from Hungary, getting to Croatia entails higher fuel and tolls.
Similar price levels should be expected for accommodation and restaurant meals at both locations. Costs on both the shores of Lake Balaton and the Adriatic Sea have risen in recent years, fueled by the growth of tourism and inflationary pressure. This trend is expected to continue in 2024.
Lake Balaton remains extremely popular among Hungarian vacationers, partly because it is closer, so travel costs are lower. This factor is especially important for families and those who can spend less time or less money on vacation. At the same time, Croatia remains a classic destination for beach vacations, the attraction of which is the clear sea and the varied beach offer.
