Many people take advantage of the long weekend of March 15
A special situation arose this year, as the long weekend of March 15 and Easter also fall in March, so many Hungarians are planning a three-day break. However, accommodation prices have risen compared to a year earlier, and hotel rooms are selling out quickly in popular settlements.
The Central Statistical Office published data from February, according to which, based on average earnings in December, the real earnings of Hungarians increased by 10.3% compared to a year earlier. This means that more money is available for recreation and tourism has picked up again after the decline experienced in recent years.
Demand for accommodation increased and record bookings were recorded in January and February, 25 per cent more than the same period last year. Among the most popular domestic destinations, Eger leads the list, while the capital Budapest is in second place. Based on the distribution of bookings, Northern Hungary, Western Transdanubia and Lake Balaton are the most popular destinations for the long weekend of March 15.
During long weekends, wellness spa hotels remain extremely popular among domestic travelers. The prices increased by 9 percent compared to the previous year, on average HUF 15,000 per person per night.
