Many dairy farmers quit
Data from the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) and KSH’s market price information system (PÁIR) reveal that the production price of raw milk was HUF 85.85/kg in September, up 1 percent from the previous month. The number of active dairy farmers fell by 3 percent to 3,121 and that of direct sellers decreased by 5 percent to 2,647 in the last quota year. The purchasing of broiler chicken augmented by 19.5 percent and its live weight production price was up 17.5 percent at HUF 249/kg on weeks 1-44 of 2011, if compared with the same period of 2010. Egg sales were down 18 percent and egg was bought at the packaging place for 7.5 percent less – HUF 16.26/piece.
