The grain supply in many Middle Eastern countries could be jeopardized by the invasion of Ukraine
The war in Ukraine could lead to a shortage of bread in several Arab countries, including civil war-torn Yemen, where millions are still threatened by famine, the UK-based news portal Middle East Monitor warned on Monday.
Referring to an analysis by the Washington-based Middle East Institute (MEI), the portal recalls that Middle Eastern countries source grain from Ukraine and Russia, and a shortage of bread could cause protests and insecurity in the region.
The institute highlighted that about half of Ukraine’s grain exports go to the North African region. (MTI)
