There are many problems with MoHu’s vending machines: the company responded to the problems
For a month, only plastic bottles and aluminum cans with a deposit fee can be put on the market in Hungary, however, the redemption system is still struggling with many problems, reports rtl.hu. Reverse automatics have been available for more than half a year, but the system does not work smoothly.
Problems with automatic transmissions
There were several problems with the machines:
- They cannot scan the barcodes on aluminum cans.
- They are often full.
- They break down and take a long time to repair.
- Vending machines are sometimes in hard-to-reach locations, requiring customers to walk through a store, which many people don’t want to do just to redeem a bottle.
MoHu’s responsibility and reaction
The machines are not operated by the shops, but by a company called MoHu. Stores often report problems to the MoHu, whether it’s filling or malfunctioning machines. However, MoHu is not always able to react in time, which is why traders have to call attention to the problems several times.
Speaking to RTL, Gábor Ozolai, the MoHu spokesman, acknowledged the problems:
“The speed at which people are switching back, which is great, is a little faster than we expected. So this has to be dealt with, and the point is that the waste of these several million, two and a half million bottles will now go to the right place.”
Although the introduction of the deposit fee system is an important step in waste reduction and recycling, the redemption system currently faces many challenges. In addition to the frequent breakdowns and difficult accessibility of the vending machines, the MoHu also has to react more quickly to the problems that arise, so that the system can really work efficiently.
