Although Christmas is still far away, holiday sweets have already taken their first hit on wallets. Pénzcentrum has learned that the price of artisanal sweets has risen again in the 2025 season, due to the increase in the world market price of cocoa and sugar, the weak forint and the increase in the cost of packaging materials. Szamos and Sulyán, the two best-known Hungarian premium brands, have a wide selection this year – but the prices have never been this high.

According to Szamos’ official price list, the classic flavors cost 26,100 forints in a 1.8-kilogram package, while the more exclusive versions cost 31,500 forints. The smaller, 250-gram gift-boxed parlor candies range between 2,850 and 4,490 forints, depending on the flavor.

Sulyán Confectionery has also published its prices for 2025, Pénzcentrum found out. The 250-gram packages start at 3,650 forints, but the premium items cost between 6,000 and 6,550 forints. The most expensive of the range include Kuwait Lotus biscuits, Dubai chocolate pistachio and Pistachio-freeze-dried raspberry parlor candies.

The increase in the price of the artisanal segment is not only due to raw material costs, but also to rising wage costs and energy prices. According to manufacturers, the effects of inflation may remain permanent in the premium category, but customers are increasingly consciously looking for smaller packages and gift-boxed variations.

Sulyán will accept orders for home delivery between November 2 and December 17 this year, and for personal collection until December 20. The Christmas season has officially started – but this year every bite is more expensive than ever.
