According to the latest data from AKI PÁIR, the national average producer price of raw milk in August 2025 was 198.67 forints/kilogram, which was 19 percent higher than the level of the same period of the previous year. Although the price has practically stagnated compared to the July value, a significant increase in price in the annual comparison further strengthens the pressure on the dairy sector – writes Agrárszektor.

A mixed picture emerged for processed dairy products: the processing price of long-life milk and fruit yogurt increased, while the price of butter, sour cream, Trappist cheese and fresh milk stagnated, and 1.5% UHT milk became slightly cheaper. On the consumer side, however, high prices are still typical: long-life 2.8% milk cost an average of 318 forints per liter, and Trappist cheese was over 2,100 forints.

A significant decline is observed in foreign trade: raw milk exports decreased by 10 percent, and total milk and dairy product exports decreased by 38 percent compared to the previous year. Although imports have narrowed, the prices of imported products have increased significantly, especially in the case of butter and cheese.

A rise in prices is also visible at the international level: the price of raw milk increased by 14 percent in the EU and 18 percent in New Zealand, while a 9 percent decrease was recorded in the United States. In the Italian spot market, raw milk was quoted at 56.25 euros/100 kg in September, while the price of organic milk reached 73.5 euros.

According to experts, permanently high prices should be expected in the domestic milk market in the coming months, which is strengthened by the increase in production costs, international trends and declining exports.
