This year’s Coop Rally ended in Siófok
The team of Metsa Tissue Hungary Kft. won the 19th Coop Rally, with the closing award ceremony held on Wednesday evening in Siófok. As part of the professional program promoting high-quality Hungarian food production and products, this year the participants visited six major food industry producers and distributors as well as two COOP member companies in six Hungarian counties. The event’s patron, Minister of Agriculture Dr. István Nagy, also attended the ceremony and presented the ministry’s awards: the grand prize went to Tutti Kft., while the special award was received by Mogyi Kft.

László Pekó, Chairman of the Board of Co-op Hungary Zrt. commented on the margin cap measure:
“Selling with a 10% margin is not an easy task.” Regarding the government’s support of village shops with 3 million forints, he said that in its current form the Coop group cannot fully utilize this measure. “I trust that a solution will be found sooner or later.”
Responding to these concerns, Minister of Agriculture Dr. István Nagy said:
“I know, I see, I feel” the issues raised. At the same time, he emphasized: it was necessary to find a tool that could fairly keep prices under control. This is what the margin cap is about.” He also stressed that the government is aware that this measure places a greater burden on shops operating in small settlements than on the discount stores in cities. “That is why the government has introduced the possibility for small-town shops to receive a 3 million forint compensation, which they can use for modernization, investments, cash registers, or software.”
Referring to the difficulties caused by the de minimis rule, he added: the government’s intention is that every single shop should have access to the 3 million forint support.
