Siófok remains the most attractive summer destination among Hungarians, according to Szallas.hu. 8 out of 10 domestic summer bookings are worth up to 170 thousand forints. The majority choose apartments. In the regional summary, Lake Balaton steadily accounts for a third of the portal’s summer bookings, with Northern Hungary in second place and the Southern Great Plain in third place. So far this summer, more than 27 percent of the total value of online payments has been paid with a SZÉP card on the Szallas.hu website.

According to Szallas.hu’s latest booking data, Siófok is the most popular settlement this summer, but Budapest, Eger, Balatonfüred, Hajdúszoboszló, Gyula, Szeged, Nyíregyháza, Hévíz and Pécs are also on the top list.

At the national level, the apartment category leads with a third of summer bookings, hotels are in second place with slightly more than 27 percent, while guesthouses account for 23 percent of bookings. Two-thirds of domestic summer bookings are without board, and 18 percent only request breakfast. 13 percent are half-board, 1.4 percent are all-inclusive, and 0.1 percent are full-board. 79 percent of bookings are worth no more than HUF 170,000. In June, 26 percent of online bookings were paid with a SZÉP card on Szallas.hu, and in July, 28 percent were paid with a SZÉP card.

The portal’s summer data also shows that half of summer bookings are made no more than 37 days before the trip. “Similar to previous years, the proportion of last-minute bookings is also significant,” explained Lili Kelemen. “Although the average advance booking period is two months, the most common is the day before departure. Many people decide on their holiday at the last minute, or even on the day of arrival, which shows the flexibility of domestic travel.”

The competition between regions is clearly led by Lake Balaton with a third of the bookings, followed by Northern Hungary with 16 percent, while the Southern Great Plain came in third place with 11 percent of summer bookings.
